Alex’s has been a household name amongst Orlando natives as the spot to go for Halal Philly Cheese Steaks. They have been serving up freshly made to order sandwiches since the late 1990s. Due to construction and road expansion, they had to move from their old location to their new location near the intersection of Colonial and Goldenrod in about 2012.

FOOD

The menu is very focused on classic fast-food items.

Their Philly cheese steak consists of strips of beef/lamb gyro, grilled bell peppers, onions and tomatoes all coated in cheese whiz (processed cheese sauce). While many are not a fan, nothing says authentic American cuisine than cheese whiz out of a can. The cheese sauce does locks in the heat so each bite feels like it just came off the grill.

Besides their famous Philly Cheese Steak, they offer up meat and chicken gyro. The gyro meat are the traditional beef/lamb mix seasoned with some additional spice to give it an extra kick. They also have American classics like cheeseburgers, wings and chicken nuggets. They also serve gyro over rice.

SERVICE

For the standard fast food location, the service is on par. Orders are placed and picked up at the counter. Shouldn’t expect to engage in too much small talk.

LOCATION

Located in Eastern Orlando, there are not many landmarks close by to attract tourist and visitors. It’s not too far from downtown Orlando or UCF. It is located in a strip mall on the southern side of Colonial Drive. There is an barrier island so you won’t be able to make a left into the plaza directly but there is a place to make a u-turn. Do be careful as it is a very busy street.

The shop is very spacious and well lit. The décor is a little out of this world given all the space themed objects like planets and comets and a large mural of an envious alien eating a Philly.

The bathroom is private and very clean too. There is ample parking in front.

PRICE

Given that orders are made fresh and that it is primarily a fast-food location, prices are reasonable. You can get a complete meal for under $10 and be easily satisfied. The famous Philly meal combo with fries and a drink is under $12. Be sure to ask about any credit card service charges.

OVERALL

Alex’s has been dishing out hot fresh Philly cheese steaks in Orlando for over 20 years. While the location is not as convenient for guests visiting the theme parks, if you find yourself in the area it is well worth a visit.
