Guru’s Rapid Review: Ariana Kabob & Grill
City: Jacksonville, Fl
Food Category: Afghani, American fast-food
Located in a small plaza off a main thruway in Jacksonville, Ariana Kabob & Grill offers excellent Afghani cuisine. When you enter, the walls are painted red and green with several framed iconic cultural images of Afghani society on the wall, including an image of the “Afghan Girl” from the National Geographic Cover. Also on the walls are traditional ceremonial garments. This décor invites you to immerse yourself in the Afghani culture while you enjoy your meal. The compact dining space with tables that seat parties of 2-4 create for a more intimate environment ideally suited for couples looking for quiet time.
The menu consists of traditional Afghani choices including kabobs, kufta, shawarma and chaplee kabobs in the usual meat choices of beef, lamb and chicken. They are charcoal grilled and served on skewers. A surprisingly distinctive factor that takes the meal to a higher level is the special blend of basmati rice the owners use, which they source specifically from a New York supplier. While a little more pricey, it really does make a difference making each bite that much more enjoyable. The portions are generous and the taste is very distinctive which justify the higher price point for each meal compared to other restaurants in the same middle-eastern cuisine class in the region.
The owners are friendly and have a passion for serving quality meals. This is reflected in their many online reviews which rave about the taste of all the various dishes on the menu. The customer service was meeting expectations for such a small establishment and family owned business. This restaurant is a definite must try for visitors from near and far and will have you coming back again and again.
