Guru’s Rapid Review: Kabob-e
City: Jacksonville, Fl
Food Category: Afghani, American fast-food
Located off the major thruway I-295 and Beach Blvd in Jacksonville, Kabob-e is a great pit-stop for locals and travelers alike. Their focus is on serving classical Afghani cuisine, however, they are close to the university campus and offer the typical American fast-casual menu classics like burgers, wings and chicken fingers too.
The food is very good and served quickly after the order is placed. Their kabobs , kufta and chapli kabobs are grilled over an open charcoal flame which give that authentic smoke flavor. In addition to the classic choices, they have expanded to serve other traditional Afghani dishes not often offered in other restaurants in the same category. They serve a variety of korma dishes which are essentially curries or stews including Sabzi Korma, Chick pea Korma and Potato Korma. To complement these dishes they also offer the various rice dishes that are so classic of that region of the world such as the chalow (white rice), palow (brown rice) and Qahbulli Palow (brown rice with raisins and diced carrots).
The owners make you feel like part of the family and strike up conversations with their regular patrons and new-comers alike. They serve your meal with a smile and check-up to make sure you are enjoy the meal. The restaurant has lots of seating and can handle large and small groups. Take out is also a popular option. The restaurant is well lit, the walls are painted with a lively yellow and there is plenty of room to navigate for those with small children and strollers. The dining area and restrooms are well kept and clean. There is plenty of parking in front of the restaurant.
Overall, this is a very well kept and customer centric restaurant. The menu offers both the traditional Afghani and American offerings to suit all tastes. The quality of the food and portion size are reasonable making this an affordable combination.
